 Clinical Experience

Primary clinical experience was acquired at St Martha’s Hospital, the then teaching hospital of St John’s Medical College, Bangalore, India.

Basic anesthetic training  included one  year at Preston  Royal Infirmary  which is a large DGH in Lancashire, UK, followed by three years at Manchester  Royal Infirmary, a teaching hospital. During this period I obtained my UK and Irish Fellowships.

Post Fellowship experience included the following:

  1. Six-months at Registrar level in Manchester Royal Infirmary,
  2. Three-months at Senior Registrar level in North Manchester General Hospital which included Pediatric anesthesia training at Booth Hall Childrens Hospital,
  3. Five-months at Registrar and six-months at Senior Registrar level in Whittington Hospital, which included Neuroanesthesia training at the Royal Free Hospital,
  4. Six-months at Senior Registrar level at Broadgreen Hospital with training in Cardiothoracic anesthesia and ITU,
  5. A year and a half in Sweden at Consultant and Senior Registrar level which complemented my training in Regional anesthesia and in ITU
  6. The early period in Aberdeen which added to my general anesthesia training, also included clinical research experience in a collaborative study with the Department of Mental Health into cerebral dementias using PET and SPECT scanning,
  7. A year and a half at Senior Registrar level consolidated and updated my general anesthesia experience and training in the specialities.
  8. Specialist training in Intensive Care was also consolidated during the one year as a Critical Care Fellow at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA,
  9. Five years in Aberdeen as a Senior Lecturer allowed me the taste of academia with experience in Intensive Care, Thoracic anesthesia and research,
  10. Two years in Aberdeen as a Consultant in Anesthesia allowed me the experience of an NHS Consultant with an interest in Thoracic anesthesia and Emergency and Trauma anesthesia.
  11. He acquired his CCST certificate as a Specialist in Anesthesia from the RCA following completion of training in January 1996.
